On February 20th, Tablao Cordobes in Barcelona celebrated its 55th anniversary with an event that will go down in flamenco history. The inauguration of this milestone brought together great figures of the art form, paying tribute to the legacy of the iconic tablao, which has been a cradle for countless artists since its opening in 1970.

The night was marked by the presence of one of the greatest legends of contemporary flamenco: Jesús Carmona, who set the stage on fire with his artistry, delivering a performance full of meaning in just a few minutes of dance. The evening began with an emotional speech by María Rosa Pérez, current director of the tablao and daughter of its founders, Luis P. Adame and Irene Alba. She highlighted the dedication and passion that have kept the spirit of Tablao Cordobes alive for over half a century.

The event focused primarily on honoring Manuela Carrasco, one of the most influential figures in flamenco dance, whose connection with the tablao has been fundamental to its history. Luis P. Adame presented her with the Mezquita de Plata, an honorary award that, since 1973, Tablao Flamenco Cordobes has given to individuals and institutions committed to defending the values of flamenco as a unifying force and cultural meeting point. The moment was filled with deep emotion and a shared sense of gratitude, both toward Manuela and toward the flamenco art form.

Flamenco critic and scholar Manuel Martín Martín delivered a conference highlighting the significance of Tablao Cordobes as a key reference point for flamenco in Catalonia and beyond.

The atmosphere of the night was electric. The audience, composed of artists, critics, and flamenco enthusiasts, experienced moments of pure magic with the performances that unfolded on stage. The final act began with a performance by Catalan guitar soloist Pedro Sierra, followed by the singing of Enrique “El Extremeño” and the dance of Manuela Carrasco Hija. The night culminated in a breathtaking bulerías finale, featuring Manuela Carrasco, Karime Amaya, Polvorilla, and Jesús Carmona, among others.

Beyond the spectacle, the 55th anniversary of Tablao Cordobes reaffirmed its role as a cultural landmark in Barcelona. With a stellar program and an unwavering dedication to flamenco, this tablao remains a space where the essence of the art form is preserved, blending tradition with innovation.

The event on February 20th was not just a celebration of the past but also a promise for the future. With the third generation of the Adame family now involved in its management, Tablao Flamenco Cordobes continues to strive for excellence and a deep commitment to flamenco. More than half a century after its foundation, this flamenco corner of La Rambla continues to illuminate the heart of Barcelona with its art and history.
