The singer from Huelva records his new album at Tablao Flamenco Cordobes.

Exceptional night by triple game. The list of great names that have gone through the Tablao Flamenco Cordobés would overflow these lines, but being able to see so close a cantaor of Arcángel’s caliber does not cease to be an event. Of exception also because it was not a performance more, but the recording, in direct, of which will be its next disc. And like any good fan could foresee, what we saw there and heard at midnight last Friday was also absolutely exceptional. To the height, by far, of that great figure that is Arcángel.

Delivered from minute zero, Francisco José Arcángel Ramos honored such a heavenly surname. Singing like someone announcing an advent. And according to what has been heard we will have to be especially attentive to the album that will come out of there. He was the first cantaor of the 21st century. The first great revelation of the last stage of bonanza that the music business has experienced. To break even then gave wings to Arcángel to reach, and stay, in that first Flemish division that today is so extremely difficult to reach.

NEW STAGE / Live discs usually have a lot of recapitulation. In this case it is the other way around. It opens a new stage with all of the law. New label (Universal), new international representation office (Polyarts / Harrison Parrot) and conceptual new work. Tablao will be titled, and will go on sale this next fall. A vindication of the importance of the controversial tablaos as the habitat of the art jondo that at one time they were. And a bet for three of its most emblematic exponents: recorded, as well as in our Cordobés, in previous concerts in El Corral de la Morería (Madrid) and El Arenal (Seville). A whole declaration of principles for that reason of the flamenco capitalism that today the city of Barcelona is showing again.

When entering the Tablao Cordobés, always devoted to acoustic sonority, a disconcerting image: there were microphones. But there would be nothing to fear: they were to record, not to amplify. Without either drawer. Two palmers who, as percussion, used only one full table (Carlos Grilo and Diego Montoya) and two guitarists (Miguel Ángel Cortés and Dani del Morón). They opened for alegrías a repertoire that supposes its reencounter with the compositions of Isidro Muñoz. And with lyrics that came painted, like the one that said: “That person torments me / only with his / her presence / that I write with Valencia and with Barcelona”. He also sang for malagueñas, soleás, tangos, zambras a compás, candentes seguiriyas, bulerías with a Jerez-like taste and a tribute to his land by fandangos de Huelva with alfalfa closing. Exceptional Tablao.
