La Rambla de las Flores, (the Rambla of the flowers), is the most poetic rambla because the colours and fragrances of the stands of flowers and plants give it a special charm.

Despite it is known as La Rambla de las Flores because during the XIX century was the only place in Barcelona where they were sold, officially it has the name of Rambla de Sant Josep, because of the convent with the same name that disappeared in 1839 and was placed in the same place where now is the Boquería Market.

The main point of this area-apart from the market- is the intelligent building called Palau Nou de La Rambla. It is called intelligent because it has 11 underground floors completely robotized which park the cars by itself. It has a smooth and modern physiognomy with a grinding wheel in the facade that allows the views to the gothic tower of the Pi church. The contrast is very nice.

In the ground floor of the intelligent building it is the luck, the administration of lottery managed by the family Valdés who has given since 1905 important prizes to the city.

Inside the Palau Nou in La Rambla stands the kingdom of the electronic games. There you can kill aliens, run crazy car races and drive space ships.

A little higher, we find the old and beautiful house Josefa Nadal with lotsfachad of romantic inscriptions in the facade.

La Rambla is a surprising and charming promenade that is, usually, used to celebrate the Carnival or the parades of the Three Wise Men.

In its casual days La Rambla must be seen, and during holidays it is normal to see famous people who come there to inspire themselves as the writer Terenci Moix used to do.

A Market is a city inside a city, with allies and neighbourhoods. The fish neighbourhood: the fish shops; the meat neighbourhood: the butcher’s shops; the vegetable neighbourhood: the vegetable shops; the legume neighbourhood, etc. All the shops gathered according to the kind of food they offer. The Boqueria market is the most famous of Barcelona, its main entrance is placed in the Rambla de las flores.

The market was built in the place of a convent dedicated to Saint Josep. The first stone was put the day of Saint Josep in 1840. The market was covered in 1913 and a few years ago recovered the beauty of the columns that surround it.

Spending some time in the eating city is worthy. Once the curiosity is satisfied or finished the shopping it is a must to visit the library and sit in one of the bars of the market as the famous Pinotxo, where they will treat us as kings or queens of the market. 

La Rambla de las Flores, is a sensual and charming rambla which traditionally used to offer the good to the people who came there and has been the historic stage since before the construction of the Boqueria of many markets of Barcelona.

Inside the market everything are voices and movement. And outside there are people of all kinds. Since the modest habitants to the chefs of the restaurants or famous people such as the writer Manuel Váquez Montalbán who was born in the Raval, or Joan Manuel Serrat, the singer who explains the mood of the city in his songs. But the market is not the only important point of La Rambla de les Flors. The modernism, fantasy, colours and forms inspired in natural elements can be seen in the facade of the old shop Figueretes, the house of soup pasta, today turned into the patisserie Escribà, because there isn’t anything better than a good sweet to finish our journey.
