Miguel Ángel Heredia

A bailaor and cantaor from Jerez who dazzles with his bulería jerezana, establishing himself at the heart of Flamenco in Barcelona.

Miguel Ángel Heredia is a distinguished bailaor and cantaor flamenco artist, born in the Gitano neighborhood of San Telmo in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). From an early age, he trained under renowned Jerez schools and masters such as Manuela Carpio, Chiqui de Jerez, Adela Campallo, Farruquito, and Marco Flores. In 1999, he embarked on a tour of Italy, where he showcased his innate talent. He later joined prestigious tablaos in Seville, including El Arenal and Los Gallos, and performed at major Andalusian festivals such as the Viernes Flamencos de Jerez and the Fiesta de la Bulería in his hometown.

His career gained international momentum with tours across Europe (Belgium, Germany, France, and the Netherlands), and since 2008 he has been based in Japan as both performer and teacher, offering annual workshops and bringing the unmistakable Jerez style abroad. His “pure Jerez flamenco” has been warmly embraced in Japan, where in 2015 he performed at the Tokyo Flamenco Festival tribute to Paco de Lucía alongside Marina Heredia. He has also headlined productions such as Sentío cabal. Bailando pa cantá and Trémula (with Alberto Sellés), both premiered at the Festival de Jerez, earning critical praise for his fusion of elegance, technical precision, and emotional depth.

Among his accolades is the 2017 Revelation Artist Award at the Festival de Jerez, as well as his role as a leading figure in Manuel Liñán’s celebrated production ¡Viva!. He has also danced and sung in notable works such as the stage adaptation of Bodas de Sangre and toured with Reina Gitana throughout Spain, even performing for Princesses Pilar and Elena of Bourbon. His hallmark is the bulería jerezana, where improvisation, the profound weight of cante—especially in soleá and bulería—and a stage presence marked by a “voluptuous movement of arms” and a “rhythmic drawing” have been highly acclaimed by critics.

With his artistry and mastery, Miguel Ángel Heredia has become an essential figure in flamenco culture, bringing the soul of Jerez to Barcelona and sharing his talent with aficionados worldwide. Today, he stands as a true ambassador of the Jerez style, balancing performance and teaching to keep the flamenco tradition alive both in Barcelona and across the globe.
