The best flamenco returns once again to Barcelona thanks to Tablao Flamenco Cordobes. The historic tablao de Las Ramblas brings together in the second fortnight of February a cast of recognised international prestige headed by the bailaor Hugo López and the bailaoras Mónica Iglesias and Paloma Fantova. Both Hugo López and Mónica Iglesias have just been awarded the Desplante prize at the Festival Internacional del Cante de Las Minas, one of the most important prizes in the world of flamenco, while Paloma Fantova will premiere its show “Cuna” at the Jerez Festival.

Hugo López is a bailaor (flamenco dancer) born in Cordoba in 1989 and who has had flamenco in his blood since he was a child. At the age of 19 he would win the prize for best show at the Festival de Jerez with “Flamenco XXI: Ópera, Café y Puro” with the company of Nani Paños and Rafael Estévez. In 2018 the dancer from Cordoba was awarded the Desplante de Baile prize at the Festival Internacional de Cante de Las Minas de La Unión and at the beginning of 2019 he participated in the show “¡Viva!” by Manuel Liñán.

Along with the dancer from Cordoba will be Mónica Iglesias, a dancer born in Madrid and living in Seville. The flamenco artist began her professional career with Rafael Estévez and Nani Paños under the direction of the filmmaker Carlos Saura for the show “Flamenco Hoy”, represented on many stages throughout the international geography as the City Center of New York. In 2018, like the bailaor Hugo López, he won the Desplante de Baile prize at the Festival Internacional de Cante de Las Minas de La Unión. Mónica Iglesias is an artist who, besides touring the most important tablaos and festivals in the world, has shared the stage with great artists such as Pastora Galván, Antonio Canales, Patricia Guerrero or Rocío Molina among others.

Also in the dance will be Paloma Fantova, a dancer born in Cadiz who started dancing at a very early age (when she was eight years old she won the talent contest of TVE Premios Veo Veo). The flamenco dancer toured theatres all over the world such as New York, Paris, London and Cairo; she also took part in Manuela Carrasco’s choreographies in Japan. In 2011 she participated in Joaquín Cortés’ show “Calé” and in 2012 she alternates her presence in Tablao Flamenco Cordobes with the presentation of her own show “Sensibilidades”. In 2019, Paloma Fantova will present his new show, entitled “Cuna”, at the Jerez Festival.

Accompanying the dance will be cantaora Fabiola Pérez, known as La Fabi and born in Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz). La Fabi studied at the Cristina Heeren Foundation with José de la Tomasa, Paco Taranto and Esperanza Fernández and throughout her professional career she has travelled all over the world. At the end of 2018, La Fabi released her own album “Fruto y Flores”. The cast of this new show by Tablao Flamenco Cordobes is completed by the vocals of Luis El Granino, El Coco and Antonio Fernández and the guitars David Cerreduela and Justo Fernández “Tuto”.

Tablao Flamenco Cordobes

Founded in 1970 by a family of artists (Luis Adame and Irene Alba), Tablao Flamenco Cordobes was characterized since its inception by the high quality of its artists (Camarón de la Isla, Farruco, Tomatito or Bambino are just some of the names that passed through the stage of La Rambla during these early years). Tablao Flamenco Cordobes has become a reference point for flamenco culture in Barcelona. Both artists and amateurs know the level of their tablas and nowadays it is one of the epicentres of flamenco. With the celebration of its 40th anniversary in 2010, the Fundación Tablao Flamenco Cordobés was created with the aim of revaluing the foundations of flamenco culture, something that demonstrates the continuous evolution of an artistic space that is already preparing its 50th anniversary for the year 2020.
