Jesús Carmona, the most international flamenco in Barcelona

Flamenco culture in Barcelona has an international ambassador of renowned prestige: the flamenco artist Jesús Carmona. The flamenco dancer, born in Barcelona, is present in Tablao Flamenco Cordobes until the end of July before continuing his tour around the world with his dance show. Jesús Carmona began his training at the age of seven years. He has a degree in Spanish Dance and Flamenco from the Instituto del Teatro y la Danza de Barcelona and has also been trained by teachers such as Bárbara Kasprovich, César Casares, Sonia Poveda, Antonio Canales, María Magdalena, Eva Yerbabuena and Manuela Carrasco, among others.

Flamenco culture in Barcelona has an international ambassador of renowned prestige: Jesús Carmona. The flamenco dancer, born in Barcelona, is present in Tablao Flamenco Cordobes until the end of July before continuing his tour around the world with his dance show.

Jesús Carmona began his training at the age of seven. He has a degree in Spanish Dance and Flamenco from the Instituto del Teatro y la Danza de Barcelona and has also been trained by teachers such as Bárbara Kasprovich, César Casares, Sonia Poveda, Antonio Canales, María Magdalena, Eva Yerbabuena and Manuela Carrasco, among others.

The dancer started his professional career at the Teatro Zorrilla at the age of 16 and from that moment on he never stopped growing. In 2006 he presented his show ‘El Silencio de La Luna’ and became part of the Spanish National Ballet. A year later, he took over as the company’s First Dancer, taking part in shows such as ‘Ritmos de Alberto Lorca’. In 2010, he participated in Rojas y Rodríguez’s tour of the Asian continent and gave courses in countries such as Italy, Holland, India and France. Two years later, he participated in Pastora Galván’s company, won the Desplante Trophy at the 52nd International Festival de Cante de las Minas de la Unión and collaborated in Duquende’s show as a principal dancer.

At the end of 2015, Jesús Carmona presented his new show ‘IMPETU’S’ at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid. After presenting it in 2016 at the Festival de Flamenco de Jerez, the following year it travelled to various places in the world such as Los Angeles, Santiago de Chile, Miami and Albuquerque. In 2017 he toured the American continent and participated in the Flamenco Gala produced by the Flamenco Festival in London, Miami and New York, the Suma Flamenca in Madrid and the Festival de Mont de Marsan, France. This successful year continues with classes in Japan, USA, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Spain. In addition, he debuts with his company in Australia.

In 2018 he begins the year with the production ‘Camino’ for an important tablao in Madrid and participates with ‘IMPETU’S’ in London, Manchester, Boston, New York and Portland, receiving great reviews and being described by The New York Times as ‘A Fenomeno of the flamenco world’.

On April 6, 2018, Jesús Carmona premiered AMATØR at the Juan Bravo Theatre in Segovia and later took it to the Royal Coliseum of Carlos III in El Escorial.

In 2018 Jesús Carmona will be with IMPETU’S at the Dubai Opera House and Suzhou Arts Center in China and with AMATØR at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Los Angeles. In addition, during 2018 and 2019 it will maintain the pedagogical project’Essay of a Life’.

Among his most outstanding awards are the Best Outstanding Dancer Award at the 20th Spanish and Flamenco Dance Competition in Madrid in 2011, the Desplante Award at the Minas de la Unión Festival in 2012, three nominations for the Max Awards for the Performing Arts in 2015 and the current Lukas Awards in the UK for best dance performer and best dance production with IMPETU’S.
