Yoel Vargas - Festival del Cante de las Minas
La Unión, August 13, 2023. The dancer from Tarragona, Yoel Ferré Vargas ‘Yoel Vargas’, originally from Tarragona, has won the ‘Desplante’ award in the male category of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas. The Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas has been held year after year uninterruptedly since 1961. Every August, it brings together the most renowned artists in the world of Flamenco, as well as other promising young or emerging artists who yearn to achieve the coveted ‘Desplante’ award.
Yoel collected the award from another Catalan dancer, David Romero, who won last year’s trophy, and performed at the Gala celebration, a fact that once again highlights the relevance and high level of flamenco in Catalonia.
Yoel Vargas is an extraordinary and very young dancer (19 years old) to whom the flamenco world predicts a bright future. From October 21 to 30, 2023, Yoel will perform at Tablao Flamenco Cordobes, where he has been a regular artist since the beginning of his career.
Yoel is a regular at Cordobes, the historic Tablao of La Rambla which for 53 years has been supporting the takeoff of young talents, who step on its stage meeting with the most established figures. Last June, Yoel shared the stage with José Maya and María Moreno, producing one of the most vibrant encounters of current flamenco.
The rest of the Festival’s trophies were awarded to Rocío Luna, cantaora from Córdoba, winner of the ‘Lámpara Minera’. The ‘Filón’ award went to Raúl Pérez Fernández from Cartagena, thanks to his performance of a taranta on the piano. The ‘Desplante’ in the female category, was won by Rocío Garrido Joya, and Juan Luis Campos Triguero ‘El Poti’ won the ‘Bordón Minero’.
