Carmen Young
Mexican dancer, originally from the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. She began her dance studies at the "Flamenco Vive" Academy.
From the age of eight she began taking courses with Cristóbal Reyes with whom she studied during her stay in Madrid in 2001. From 2012 she has continued her studies in Madrid and Seville, being her main teachers, Antonio and Manuel Reyes, Javier Baron, Carmelilla Montoya and Milagros Mengibar; she has also studied with Luisa Palicio, Mercedes de Cordoba, Adela Campallo and Lucia “La Piñona”, among others.
At the age of 18 she was a repeater of Cristobal Reyes in his 2011 and 2012 tours of courses in various cities in Mexico, and was the winner of the scholarship for Study Abroad awarded by the Cultural Institute of Aguascalientes, Mexico through the State Fund for Culture and the Arts, FECA 2012-2013 with which she studied at Amor de Dios.
She was part of Maria Juncal’s company “Bailamos Flamenco” 2013 as a soloist dancer in the theater of Mexico City. She has performed in various theaters, halls, tablaos such as Cardamomo, Villarosa, Las Carboneras, La Pacheca and Candela in Madrid, Casa del Arte and Jardines de Zoraya in Granada, flamenco cycles and distinguished festivals such as “Flamencos y Mestizos” directed by Paco Ortega in Madrid (2015) solo, In Bilbao (2017) together with Antonio Molina “El Choro” and Úbeda (2019) in which he premieres his first proposal “Calle de la Compañía” and repeat that same year in June in the IV Festival Esprit de _Bayonna. In Jerez where she was a soloist in the XX Festival de Jerez with the show “Eclosión” of the Cristina Heeren Foundation and as corps de ballet in “Flamenconautas” directed by Javier Latorre in the XXII Festival de Jerez.
First understudy of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía in 2019. In November of that year she performs with Rosalía at the MTVEMA’s in Seville and collaborates in 2020 and 2022 with the Dior brand for brand events. Currently repeating the show “#SiDiosKiere” by Antonio Molina “El Choro” which premiered on March 3 at the XXVI Festival de Jerez at the Teatro Villamarta.
In recognitions; 2018 receives the Special Prize in the contest Tablao Las Carboneras, semifinalist in the contest of Tablao Villa Rosa 2019, and finalist in the Contest Flamenco Puro de Jerez 2020.
In 2022 she receives the First Prize in the first edition of the Tablao Los Amayas contest and in the 31st Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Contest she receives 3 awards: Festival de Jerez for a performance in the 2023 edition, Residency at the Centro Coreográfico La Gomera and invitation as a choreographer in the Rosario Vancouver Company in Canada. In teaching she has been a repeater of Javier Baron (2015-2018), Carmelilla Montoya (2018-2019) at the Cristina Heeren Foundation at the same time she has been a teacher in basic level of that school, monitor and dance assistant in the singing and guitar classes of Juan José Amador, Paco Cortés, Pedro Sánchez among others (2015- 2019). She lives in Seville where she has been working since 2018 in the tablaos Teatro Flamenco Triana, Casa de la Memoria, Tablao El Arenal and Tablao Álvarez Quintero.
