Yoel Vargas is one of the most promising figures of current flamenco. With a precocious talent and an unwavering passion for dance, he has managed to consolidate himself on prestigious stages worldwide. His rigorous training and his overwhelming expressiveness have made him a reference of the new flamenco generation.
Yoel Vargas: His first steps as a dancer
Since he was 3 years old, Yoel Vargas felt a special connection with flamenco. At the age of 9 he began his dance studies in Tarragona, where he trained in Spanish, classical, contemporary and flamenco dance with renowned artists from his region. She later complemented her training in Madrid and Granada with great flamenco artists:
Antonio Canales, Belén López, Rubén Olmo, María Juncal, Alfonso Losa, La Lupi, José Manuel Álvarez, Inés Rubio, José “El Indio” and many other renowned artists.
In 2017 she entered the Professional Dance Conservatory of the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona in the specialty of Spanish dance. During his training, he participated in countless classes and workshops with renowned artists. At his young age, he was invited to prestigious events such as Amor de Dios Studio 4 Nights (2018-2019) and shared the stage with authentic flamenco figures such as Belén López, Alfonso Losa, Ana Moya and María Juncal.
His tireless dedication led him to perfect his technique and explore new forms of expression within the art of flamenco, combining tradition with a contemporary vision that distinguishes him.
Professional career: A rise to the top of the flamenco scene
First awards and recognitions.
In 2015 and 2016 he won the award for Best Dancer at the Spanish Dance Competition of the Earth in Valencia.
In 2016 he wins the gold medal in the Folklore category and participates in the Gala of the international competition Tanzolymp in Berlin.
In 2019 he is selected by Francis Núñez as soloist dancer in the show “Eclipse, Viaje de Ida y Vuelta” and by Ángel Rojas to integrate his company.
In 2020 he choreographs “La Flor de Granada”, being awarded with the Outstanding Dancer Award at the Choreographic Contest of Madrid and the Choreographic Contest of Tetuan.
Consolidation and international expansion
In 2021 he won the Dávalos-Fletcher Foundation Award with his choreography “Malagueña”.
That same year he joins the Manuel Liñán Company with the show “VIVA!!!”, touring New York, London, Miami, Mexico DF and Bogota.
In 2022 he collaborates in “Journal d’un disparu / L’Amour sorcier” with choreography by Manuel Liñán for the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg.
In 2023 she premieres the gala “Flamenco, Tablao” at the Sona Flamenc festival, with her own choreography.
In the same year he became a guest dancer in prestigious tablaos such as El Cordobes, Flamenco de Leones, Las Carboneras, Los Porches and Corral de la Morería. He also directed and premiered “ÓBITO”, winning 10 awards at the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid and received the “El Desplante” Award at the 62nd edition of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas.
News and new projects
Yoel Vargas joins the company Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana in New York as a soloist.
Premieres “EQUILIBRIO, Clásica Tradición” and “Bolero” by Emilio Ochando, as well as “El Quinto Elemento” by Patricia Guerrero.
He performs in prestigious venues such as the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Joyce Theater in New York.
In 2024 he is a finalist in the Princess of Girona Art Awards for his contribution to Spanish culture through dance.
In 2025 he is recognized by Dance Magazine as one of the “25 to Watch”.
Constantly evolving, Vargas continues to explore new forms of expression in flamenco, collaborating with musicians and choreographers from other disciplines. His artistic ambition has led him to experiment with innovative fusions, broadening the horizons of contemporary Flamenco.
