Flamenco in Barcelona & Seville

In May, Tablao Flamenco Cordobes in La Rambla keeps bringing to Barcelona the best artists in the flamenco world, with the cycle Flamenco Barcelona in Spring. This month we bring you flamenco leading figures of Barcelona and Seville: Jesús Carmona, Amador Rojas, Karime Amaya and Susana Casas.

Jesús Carmona (12/5-19/5) is one of the best representatives of flamenco in Barcelona and keeps figuring as main attraction in the most important festivals and theatres in the world. Its dance, that combines a prodigious technique, a very personal aesthetic sense and a mastery of flamenco’s complicated and different styles, makes him one of the most complete and acclaimed dancers and choreographers of the world. After his recent success in the XIIth Fall for Dances Festival of New York, Jesús returns to Tablao Flamenco Cordobes of Barcelona to continue impressing locals and foreigners in a peak moment of his career.

As a particular representative of Seville, after a year far from the scenarios of Barcelona, Amador Rojas (9/5-31/5) returns. Pupil of the legendary Farruco, who taught him the bases of the flamenco world, his passion for dance throws him towards a continuous self taught search, creating its own choreographies with a personal and inimitable style. Creative genius, his successful career has taken him to win diverse prizes, as the Prize “Revelation Artist” in the Biennial of Flamenco of the 2008, the Prize “Flamenco” Venencia 2009 or The Golden Lyre Musicianship Award 2010.

During the first week of the month we will also enjoy the art of the master Juan de Juan and of the youth of Yiyo. Juan of Juan, outstanding student of Antonio Canales, is considered as one of the most important dancers of the last years and his creativity and continuous search of new ideas and concepts has taken him to artistic proposals of all kinds, always with flamenco as its core. Yiyo is one of the more promising youths for flamenco in Barcelona and is already considered one of the future stars in the flamenco panorama.

Relentless and deserving heiress of the last name Amaya, Karime Amaya (1/5-31/5) continues taking its shows all over the world to theaters, and especially to its native Mexico. New York, Tokyo, Albuquerque, Quito, New Mexico, Madrid, Mont-of-Marsan are some of the cities that she has visited with their own shows and collaborating with other artists such as Farruquito, Antonio Canales or Mario Maya, among others. It is also one of the main characters of Eva Vila’s documental “Bajarí” that depicts the flamenco world in Barcelona.

We also have Susana Casas (9/5-31/5) back as representative from Seville. With an extensive career behind her, she debuted professionally with 15 years of age and quickly began to travel all over the world: France, Mexico, Holland or Japan were some of her first destinations. She has worked for the best companies and artists: Mario Maya, Matilde Coral, Cristina Hoyos, Curro Vélez, Alejandro Granados, Pedro Sierra or Junco, among others, and she has collaborated regularly with Tablao Flamenco Cordobes throughout her career. She holds many prizes, and the most important of them would be the Farolillo de Oro of Seville, the 1st National Prize “Matilde Coral” the 2nd National Prize in the Alegrías dance category, the 1st Prize to (Cádiz) best freestyle dance or the 2nd Prize in the Festival Internacional de Cante de las Minas.
