flamenco Danseur

Karime Amaya

Karime Amaya (Mexico, 1985) is an internationally renowned flamenco dancer and a direct heir to the legendary Amaya dynasty, being the great-niece of the iconic Carmen Amaya. She trained from an early age within her family environment under the guidance of her mother, dancer Mercedes Amaya “La Winy”, and made her stage debut at just 9 years old with her parents’ company.

From the beginning of her career, she has been closely linked to major international flamenco festivals. She performed at the International Flamenco Festival of Albuquerque (USA) in multiple consecutive editions (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006), sharing the stage with leading figures such as Farruquito, María Pagés and Israel Galván. In 2003, she appeared at the Arts Presenters 46th Annual Members Conference in New York, and in 2004 she completed a six-month residency at the prestigious El Flamenco tablao in Tokyo (Japan).

In 2004 and 2005, she was a guest artist in the production “Bailaor” by Antonio Canales in Palma de Mallorca. In 2005, she also performed at the Quito Flamenco Festival (Ecuador) and began appearing regularly in some of Madrid’s most important tablaos, including Casa Patas, Las Carboneras and Cardamomo.

In 2006, she toured more than 30 cities across Spain with the show “Frente a Frente”, led by dancer Juan de Juan, alongside Ana Salazar. That same year, she was invited to the Arte Flamenco Festival of Mont-de-Marsan (France), where she shared the stage with artists such as Gerardo Núñez, Mario Maya’s company, Antonio “El Pipa” and the Farruco family.

In 2007, she embarked on a tour across major cities in Japan, and in 2008 she performed at the 10th Monterrey Flamenco Art Festival (Mexico). In 2009, she collaborated as a guest artist with Antonio Canales and guitarist Enrique de Melchor.

In 2011, she premiered the show “Amaya Linaje”, a tribute to her family legacy. Between 2011 and 2012, she starred in the documentary “Bajarí”, directed by Eva Vila, which was nominated for the Gaudí and Goya Awards.

In 2012, she presented her own production “Desde la Orilla” at the Festival de Jerez, marking a key moment in her international recognition. That same year, she performed as a guest artist in “Abolengo” by Farruquito and in “Dicen de mí” by Joaquín Cortés, touring internationally until early 2013.

In 2013, she received the prestigious Revelation Award at the Festival de Jerez, one of the most important recognitions in flamenco. That same year, she starred alongside Pastora Galván and Paloma Fantova in “Con Carmen Amaya en la memoria”, a tribute production presented across major European cities.

In 2014, she participated in the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla with the show “Cuerpo, mente y alma”, alongside Paloma Fantova and Jesús Carmona. She also performed in productions such as “Gala Flamenca” with Antonio Canales and “8 códigos” with Carlos Carbonell. That year, she joined the international Flamenco Festival circuit, touring across the United States, China and Europe.

In 2016, she performed at the Suma Flamenca Festival alongside José Maya and Juan de Juan, reinforcing her presence in the leading flamenco circuits. Throughout her career, she has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Tomatito, Gerardo Núñez, Los Losada and Farruquito.

In February 2024, she took part in the tribute “Flamenco Legacy” dedicated to Paco de Lucía, performing alongside artists such as Rubén Blades, Al Di Meola, Diego “El Cigala”, Duquende and José Mercé. She has also collaborated with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, expanding her international reach into new audiences.

Today, Karime Amaya continues to perform in major festivals and prestigious tablaos around the world, maintaining an active career across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Her dance embodies both the strength of flamenco tradition and a powerful contemporary stage presence, positioning her as one of the most respected figures in flamenco today.
